The Biggest Table We've Ever Built

7' square wooden table

Every once in a while a project comes along that changes how we think about our own shop. This was one of them.

A client in South Carolina wanted a table big enough to anchor family dinners for years: a full 7-foot square, built to sit at the center of a room. Our Shop Manager, Ben Feathers, designed it, and it was built start to finish here in our West Chester shop, out of character grade walnut butcher block with sap wood worked into the top.

A table this size changes the process, not just the material list. Our spray booth handles almost everything that comes through the shop, but not something this large, so we built a temporary booth just to finish it properly. Ben also had to design the table to break down into sections, almost like oversized building blocks, both to get it out of the shop and to survive a 600-mile drive in one piece.

Every joint and panel had to be planned around that final assembly. Nothing could be figured out later. The table needed to come apart cleanly, travel safely, and go back together exactly as designed once it reached its new home.

So that's what we did. Instead of shipping it with a freight company, we loaded it up and drove it to South Carolina ourselves, then installed it in place. If we're putting our name on something this ambitious, we wanted to see it through to the last step.

This one tested us on scale, engineering, and logistics all at once.
