The Biggest Table We've Ever Built

7' square wooden table

Every once in a while, a project comes along that pushes us past everything we thought we knew about our own shop. This was one of those builds.

A client down in South Carolina came to us wanting something big. Not big in the "that'll be a nice statement piece" sense, big as in a full 7-foot square table, designed to anchor a room and hold family dinners for years to come. Our own Shop Manager Ben Feathers took on the design, and the whole thing was built, start to finish, right here in our West Chester woodshop.

The problem was simple: we had never built a table this size before.

That's usually where the fun starts for us. A table this large doesn't just require more wood and more time, it changes the entire process. Our spray booth, which handles most of what comes through our shop without a second thought, couldn't fit a piece this size. So we improvised, building a pseudo spray booth just to finish it properly. Ben also had to custom design the table to break down and piece together almost like oversized Lego blocks, both so we could actually maneuver it out of the shop, and so it could survive an 600-mile road trip in one piece.

Every joint, every panel, every connection point had to be planned with that final assembly in mind. There was no room for "we'll figure it out later." This table needed to come apart cleanly, travel safely, and go back together exactly as designed once it reached its new home.

And that's exactly what we did. Once the build was finished, we didn't just box it up and ship it off to a freight company and hope for the best. We loaded it up and drove it down to South Carolina ourselves, then installed it in its final spot in person. If we're going to put our name on something this ambitious, we wanted to see it through to the very last step, watching it settle into the space it was built for.

This build tested us in every way a project can: the scale, the engineering, the logistics of getting a one-of-a-kind piece hundreds of miles from where it was born. But that's the kind of challenge we're always up for. A table like this doesn't just show what we can build, it shows how far we'll go to build it right.

One-of-a-kind, hand-delivered, and built to last. That's a West Chester Woodworks table.
